WSGC Middle East 2012

In Middle East, population is growing at a much faster rate than the world average of 1.17%. Among 16 Middle East countries, there are 4 countries with very high population growth of 2.5% or higher: Kuwait at 3.55% (one of the highest in the world), Jordan (3.04%), Yemen (2.97%), and United Arab Emirates (2.85%). Countries with population growth between 2% and 2.5% include Syria (2.45%), Saudi Arabia (2.24%), and Qatar (2.11%). Among Middle East countries, only 3 countries experience population growth below the world average, and the remaining 13 countries experience population growth higher than the world average.

Following the rapid population growth in Middle East, electricity need is skyrocketing as well. Each government is faced with the classic problem:how to give a decent living to its citizens and that includes adequate and reliable electricity. Coal is the main source of electricity generation which produces 44.9% of total electricity generated, followed by natural gas at 23.4% and nuclear at 20.3%. Electricity usage is the cause of 40% human-caused CO2 production.As industry is moving towards "greener" trend, a smarter and more efficient method of electricity usage is definitely welcome...
