Background

    It is my greatest pleasure, on behalf of the Organizing Committee to welcome you to attend the 5th Health Insurance Innovation Congress & Awards China 2020 (HIIC 2020), to be held on November 3-4th, in Shanghai, China.

    In December 2019, the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission (CBIRC) issued the newly revised Administrative Measures on Health Insurance to encourage insurance companies to make innovations in health insurance products, technologies, services and cooperation. In January 2020, the Opinions on Promoting the Development of Commercial Insurance in the Field of Social Services jointly issued by 13 departments including CBIRC put forward that the market size of commercial health insurance is expected to exceed 2 trillion yuan by 2025. This means that the average annual growth rate of health insurance in the next five years can reach about 20%. In May 2020, CBIRC issued the Guidance on Promoting the Online Development of Property Insurance Business to all property insurance companies, which mentioned that the online development rate of short-term health insurance and other business areas will reach over 80% by 2022. The introduction of intensive policies will escort the vigorous development of health insurance in China.

    The outbreak of COVID-19 at the end of 2019 has hit many industries hard, while health insurance has grown against the downtrend. From January to March 2020, the health insurance premium in China reached 264.076 billion yuan, increased 21.58% compared to last year. And internet business grew the fastest. The epidemic has forced health insurance to transform to online. Online and digital insurance will the future of health insurance development. How to grasp the rapid growth opportunity and apply new technologies for transformation is a critical subject for the whole industry.
