EU project developer ENGIE aims China CSP market

ENGIE, formerly known as GDF SUEZ, headquartered in France, is one of the world leaders in energy transition. ENGIE has been involved in Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) sector for years as investor, operator and engineer (Tractebel Engineering, sub-company of ENGIE).

 

In the third round of South African government's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), the consortium led by ENGIE (owned 49%) won the bidding to build 100 MW Kathu CSP plant project in South Africa’s Northern Cape. The project will incorporate parabolic trough technology and will be equipped with a molten-salt storage system that will allow 4.5 hours of thermal energy storage, and it is expected to be commissioned around the year of 2018.

 

As Mr. Koen Loossens, Power Project Manager from ENGIE Belgium BU, is looking at global CSP business for ENGIE, talks to CSP Focus, “We are now paying much attention on CSP industry, and active in looking for opportunities to invest and develop CSP projects globally in South Africa, Morocco and Chile etc.” Speaking of China market, Koen is excited for the news of around 1GW CSP pilot program launched by the government, and expects to get more news during his attendance in the upcoming CSP Focus China 2016 Mar.24-25 Beijing conference. “China is quite different from other markets, and we surely hope to be cooperative with Chinese partners and vendors both in China and other CSP markets.” Koen adds.
