China NEA targets 10GW for CSP by 2020

China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute (CREEI), the leading editor for 13th Five-year Plan of Solar Energy, indicates the target for CSP during 13th Five-year (2016-2020) is probably 10GW. At the same time, the National Energy Administration (NEA) announces the PV target of 150GW.

CREEI has submitted the plan draft for solar energy, which integrates both PV and CSP, however, some other organizations advise separate targets for CSP and PV respectively. During the upcoming 5th Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee to be held during Oct.26-29, the plan draft will be reviewed and hopefully defined. Though it exist some uncertainties for the 10GW target, 5GW will be the bottom line for sure, resources indicate.

As a matter of fact, only around 14MW CSP projects were established during the 12th Five-year period (2011-2015), far behind from the planned goal of 1GW. However, for the next Five-year plan, Experts say with great excitement that the target of 10GW contributes a lot for the confidence of industry players and must trigger the blooming development of China CSP market.

As announced by the end of this September, a total capacity of 1GW for CSP pilot projects will be reviewed and confirmed by the end of this year and hopefully to be completed in future two years.
