Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) And Its Offshore Oil & Gas Roles
GMA is responsible of monitoring, regulating and coordinating maritime activities in all Ghanaian waters and the maritime industry.
In practical terms, GMA is responsible for ensuring the maritime community of aids to navigation, rescue capability, effective national oil-spill response capability, and ship and port security, international maritime obligations, membership of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
In offshore oil and gas sector, GMA’s essential point is that nearly all the infrastructures come under various IMO regulatory frameworks, including security, safety or environment.
In Ghana’s deepwater fields, considerable resources will have to be devoted to perform deepwater regulatory tasks. These include establishment of facilities, logistics for enforcement, supply vessels, training and maintaining the infrastructure.
