| Bank-FinTech: From Threat to Treat |
To more and more banks, teaming up with fintech companies, which previously seen a threat, is now accepting warm welcome, as they look to respond to a sharp increase in customers banking online and to take advantage of opportunities created by new technologies such as blockchain.
Recently, HSBC and 17 other financial firms are heating up the race in Hong Kong to find innovative start-ups that could disrupt their industry as the city hosts Asia-Pacific’s largest financial technology accelerator programme for the fourth consecutive year.
And HSBC indicated that they welcome the “crazy” fintech ideas and now they are artnering with fintech startup Tradeshift to offer trade financing and help businesses increase their working capital. |

John Flint was appointed Chief Executive of Retail Banking and Wealth Management with effect from 1 January 2013.
1989: Joined the HSBC Group and spent the first 14 years with HSBC in Asia, helping to establish and expand the HSBC Global Markets Business in the region before moving back to Europe in 2004.
He has held positions in Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Bahrain, the United States and the United Kingdom.
2006: Group Treasurer and assumed global responsibility for Balance Sheet Management
2008: Deputy Head of Global Markets and Head of Global Markets, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
2010: Chief Executive of HSBC Global Asset Management
2011: Group General Manager. A Director of HSBC Canada, he was formerly Deputy Chairman of HSBC Jintrust Asset Management.
2012: Chief of Staff to the Group Chief Executive of HSBC Holdings Plc and Group Head of Strategy and Planning
2013: Group Managing Director
Mr. Flint holds a BA (Honours) in Economics and is a member of the Institute of International Finance (IIF) Market Monitoring Group. |
