Asia’s Blockchain startups may gain share in the global market after fintech funding surged to $10.5 billion in the first nine months of 2016, while China’s comprised over 90% of the region’s total. Financial-service and internet firms may join venture capitalists in backing blockchain and related projects such as payments and cybersecurity. |
Blockchain startups to multiply on banking’s push in Asian hubs
The number of blockchain startups in Asia may surge in 2016-17 starting from a small base in June. Clustering may occur in leading financial hubs as regional banks push for the technology’s applications. R3, a blockchain developer, just launched an Asia-based incubator dubbed the Blockchain Center of Excellence, with support from banks including JPMorgan, HSBC and Mitsubishi UFJ. For now, these startups are spread out in Asia, with only 9.6% of them concentrated in five countries, according to Outlier Ventures. |
