Asian countries are actually the leading market for ice cream at the moment, and it’s India that had the fastest growing ice cream sales in the world in 2016, according to new research from Mintel.
China claimed the world’s biggest ice cream market with an astounding 4.3 billion liters of ice cream sold in 2016, while Indonesia and Vietnam are also experiencing a growth spurt behind India.
Asian countries are also the world’s leading ice cream innovators, accounting for 32% new products in 2016. There’s a market for Asian inspired ice cream flavors. “It is no longer seen as just a treat for kids, and adults are now looking as a snacking option.”

The soft-serve ice cream leader Dairy Queen, carrying its signature soft-serve ice cream through the stores all around the world, expands its locations in Taiwan, Vietnam, South Korea, etc. recently and often tweaks menus to appeal to local cultures, offering ice cream flavors such as green tea with red bean.
