Dear colleagues,

In July 2022, the first safety-related concrete has been poured for the nuclear island of unit 1 of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant in Egypt. It marks the official start of construction of the first of four Russian-supplied VVER-1200 reactors at the site on the country's Mediterranean coast.

Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mr. Mohamed Shaker said: "The ceremony commemorating the pouring of the first concrete for unit 1 is a great delight for us. The commencement of full-scale construction of unit 1 is a historic event for Egypt."

Beside of Egypt, the emergence of large clean energy projects in the Middle East and Africa region, including some landmark nuclear projects, is driving energy transformations in the region. ’’ Nuclear 'gaining traction' as option in many Middle East and African countries’’, says IAEA.

With this in mind, the 6th Middle East and Africa Nuclear Industry Congress 2023 , April 26-27, Cairo, Egypt (The 6th MEA NIC 2023) is coming back to explore latest MEA nuclear energy potentials, discuss proper reactor options & implementation strategies for MEA NPP projects, update on new build and life extension projects in MEA countries, together with innovative technology demonstration to empowering MEA nuclear energy development
