Saudi Arabia's Finance Ministry has confirmed in its 2023 budget statement that it has received bids for the construction of the country's first nuclear power plant. "The completion of several major works for the project to build the first nuclear power plant in the kingdom, and the receipt of bids to build the first nuclear power plant in the kingdom on 31st December 2022," the statement notes. No further details are given. This marks the first official statement issued on the status of the project.

As we all know Saudi Arabia has had an interest in nuclear power for decades. The 6th Middle East and Africa Nuclear Industry Congress 2023 , April 26-27, Cairo, Egypt (The 6th MEA NIC 2023) will discuss ‘’Nuclear Power as Future Prospects of Saudi Arabia’’ and ‘’Proposed Timeline for Saudi Arabia’s First Nuclear Project’’.
