H.E. Hamad Alkaabi
Permanent Representative of the UAE to the IAEA & Special Representative for International Nuclear Cooperation

Al Kaabi has helped since 2006 lead the UAE assessment of the possibility of developing a peaceful nuclear energy program, and has served as a primary interlocutor on matters relating to nuclear energy and nonproliferation between the UAE Government and international organizations and governments, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He is currently the UAE's permanent representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and was named in 2008 as the government Special Representative for International Nuclear Cooperation. He has been personally involved in all key milestones of the nuclear energy assessment, Drafting and release of the Policy of the United Arab Emirates on the Evaluation and Potential Development of Peaceful Nuclear Energy, and Bilateral agreements related to cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy between the UAE and various nuclear supplier nations.

Ambassador Al Kaabi was trained as a nuclear engineer, getting his bachelor's and master's degrees from Purdue University in Indiana (USA). His graduate work focused on nuclear safety.
