Bahrain Oil Minister Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa said that Italian energy company Eni will begin drilling in the country this year. He spoke on the sidelines of the MoU signing between Bahrain's National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and Eni.
This was one of several recent regional announcements by Eni, which include an exploration and production sharing agreement for Oman's onshore Block 47, three of Sharjah's onshore exploration concessions and a 70% stake in two offshore Abu Dhabi concessions.

MENA offshore industry is expected to expand and continue to grow in the years ahead, with new field discoveries and bidding plans in Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Oman, UAE, Bahrain, Algeria and more. Many international oil companies – both established players and new comers - are attracted to the region’s new E&P opportunities due to its potential significance and scale of the basins.
