Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen has been awarded funding to create a skills development framework for the oil and gas sector in Mexico. Through the Prosperity Fund, the British Government has supported Mexico to shape its energy legislation based on international best practices.

 

RGU holds the belief that the Energy Reform in Mexico presents huge opportunities for the Mexican oil and gas sector. However, 135,000 additional skilled people are required in the oil and gas industry over the next 15 years in order to meet production targets.

The project RGU undertakes will help Mexico with economic development and create commercial opportunities in the energy sector.

In the meanwhile, the U.S. explorer, Fieldwood Energy, sees offshore Mexico crude flowing in 2019. The company plans to spend about $170 million to drill and test two wells next year. The Round 2.1, with 15 shallow-water oil blocks and anticipated to require $750 million to develop, is also within the company’s bidding plan.
