Mexican president-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is proposing to boost spending for exploration and drilling new oil and gas wells by 75 billion pesos ($4 billion) in the next year to help the country make up for steep production declines in the past decade. The country's energy reform was designed to address that specific problem, issuing new bid rounds to bring in new players. A total of 107 contracts have been awarded and new discoveries made, among which 31 shallow water and 28 Deepwater (1 Pemex Farm-out included) contracts.
