Uganda export chamber is pushing for full use of railway transport for cargo destined to Uganda. This as rift valley railways announces mega plans to increase the number of locomotives plying between Kenya and Uganda.

Uganda’s railway system however is dilapidated and it has undergone various repairs after near collapse. The government is about to implement the regional ambitious standard gauge railway. Besides, China has agreed to finance a $3.2 billion railway project for the 476 kilometre line. Obviously indicating, Uganda and Kenya’s rail industry is entering into a booming time both for rail new build and renewal.
