Morocco  ♦ Tangier-Casablanca High-Speed Rail Line 200million  ♦ Plan to refurbish the railways and expand it by investing $20 billion (Dh73.4 billion) up to 2035, which includes the work underway to modernize the controls and telecommunications on the network
Southern Africa
South Africa  ♦ Train renewal program 4.3billion  ♦ In 2012, launched the Market Development Strategy, a seven-year $33.82bn investment scheme to rejuvenate the country's ports, rail and pipelines infrastructure. A big portion of this investment is dedicated to rail.
 ♦ In March 2014, Transnet announced a $4.26bn contract with four manufacturers to build a 1,064-strong locomotive suite. 
 ♦ Over the next four years, South Africa will shift its freight from road to rail
 ♦ National Transport Master Plan aims to invest $71.2bn in infrastructure projects until 2050, with 43% of this expected to be dedicated to the rail segment.
 ♦ By 2019, a total of $631m will be spent specifically on skills development and staff training as part of the market strategy.
West Africa
Nigeria  ♦ high speed rail project 13 billion  ♦ China Railway Construction, awarded a $3.5 billion contract to build a 334km railway in the southwestern state of Ogun. The rolling stock, tracks and operating technology for the project to link cities in the area will be based on Chinese standards.
 ♦ Privatization bill for Nigerian railways approved: The bill allows the private sector to build, operate and maintain the 3557km of 1067mm-gauge infrastructure which is currently the guise of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) (2015.2)
East Africa
Uganda  ♦ Standards Gauge railways expansion & upgrade 13.8billion  ♦ China Set for $3.2 Billion Uganda Rail Plan, signed EPC contract for the Eastern and Northern Standard Gauge Railway Network project (2015.4).
Central Africa
Namibia  ♦ Namibia and Botswana TKR High Speed 10billion  ♦ A study is currently being conducted to determine the rail width (gauge) as well as the exact route the 1450km Trans Kalahari railway (TKR) has to follow to link south-eastern Botswana’s vast Mmababula coal fields to Walvis Bay for bulk export.
