A rapid increase in the number of baby of China in recent years has encouraged a multiplication of the milk formula brands, which has led to the same product often being packaged into different brands. Around 2,000 milk formula variants were available in China at the end of 2015. To make the industry more accountable and to increase product quality, following the instigation of the Food Safety Law by the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) in October 2015, the draft text of the legislation published in December 2015 clarifies that for the infant and young children formula industry, “one company shall not have more than three series of products and nine product formulas”. It is set to result in a major reduction in the number of baby formula brands in 2016, leading to a consolidation among domestic producers. For foreign-owned brands, is it the advantage to develop milk formula brands? All the issues will be talked about in Global Dairy Congress China 2016, which will be held in September 21-23, Shanghai, China. In addition, there are 2 topics will be also discussed.
