21 companies have registered to Mexico’s highly anticipated deepwater bid round (Phase 4 of Round One) set for Dec. 2016, including the industry’s heavy hitters like ExxonMobil and Chevron, etc.
So far, just 5 of 19 shallow-water blocks have been leased in the previous phases of Mexico’s Round One oil auction. But the Phase 4 with 10 deepwater blocks to offer arouses the investors’ interest.
Why would the operators rush into the deepwater Mexico as a crowd? The geologists said that even at times when oil hovers around US$30/bbl, most majors are likely willing to gamble that by the time they are ready to produce from Mexico’s deep waters, prices will be on the uptick again.
