Dear Colleague, French nuclear waste agency Andra said the amount of nuclear waste stored in France will triple once all its nuclear installations have been decommissioned, which will boost the need for storage facilities. Andra estimated that final nuclear waste volumes will eventually reach 2.5 million in 2030. Andra warned that the storage centers are filling up and waste management need to be optimized because storage facilities are a rare resource. In the coming years, more than 200 nuclear power stations across the world are expected to be closed by 2030. Nuclear waste management urgently needs to be fixed. France’s Andra, a public body in charge of the long-term management of all radioactive waste, under the supervision of the Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development have rich experience on radioactive waste management.Dr. Gérald Ouzounian - International Director at Andra will share French’s idea for nuclear waste management at World Nuclear Decommissioning & Waste Management Congress (Europe) 2016(Sept. 12-14, London).
