Dear Colleague,

Do you hear about SABMiller's Kenyan unit (Crown Beverages) has paid KES2.4m (US$23,000) payment after distributor contracts were found to breach anti-trust laws?

The investigation by Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) found two clauses in Crown agreements that set minimum price rules for distributors. However, the company stated that it never enforced minimum resale price maintenance or prevented our distributors from undercutting their competitors in order to woo customers and increase sales.

If companies set minimum price rules for distributors, what is the effect of distributors? Will it make the price rise? Will it damage the interests of consumers?

In Nov 3-4, Cape Town South Africa, Global Food and Beverage Congress Africa 2016, the only Food and beverage conference in Africa, sets a special topic--Development Trend of Food and Beverage Retail Marketing and Strategy to talk about it.
