Dear Colleague,
Most of car lightweight design will apply aluminum alloy except for some expensive supercar, will use carbon fiber. Compared to traditional rolled steel, with smaller density, lighter weight and rigidity, aluminium alloy has superiority for lightweight. However, aluminum alloy is “light” as well as “expensive” because of materials and manufacturing technique cost.
All aluminum doesn’t mean pure aluminum. All aluminum body isn’t an integral part, which will apply different kinds of materials according to stress distribution of different parts. Those materials will be connected by self-pressing rivet joint technique, laser wielding, cementing and other joining technologies. Now, the common concerns are how to reduce the aluminum body cost and how to balance the applications of different materials under current production.
