Welcome Message

Dear All,

It is my pleasure, on behalf of the organizing committee, to welcome you to attend the Nuclear Industry Congress Africa, which will be held on February 25th ¨C 26th, 2014 in Cape Town, South Africa. The main motivation behind this congress is to provide a vital platform for all nuclear energy players to know about the prospects of the regional market and learn from each other to joint develop the African nuclear power industry.

Up to now, there are more than 440 nuclear power plants operating in 31 countries, generating 14% of the world¡¯s electricity. IAEA predicts that this proportion will at least up to 25% in 2030, with 90 new nuclear power plants coming on stream. Over 60 reactors are under construction in 13countires while about 160 reactors are planed and over 320 are proposed.

African countries are seriously considering adopting nuclear energy. South Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria are planning to build nuclear power plants in the next decades and other African countries are considering or preparing for nuclear.

South Africa's cabinet will consider tens of billions of dollars worth of new nuclear power plants and government commitment to the future of nuclear energy is strong, with firm plans for further 9600 MWe in the next decade, generating 23% of its electricity. Egypt launched an initiative to start developing nuclear power plants that are expected to generate 5,000 MW by 2027. Kenya expects to commission its first nuclear plant of 1,000MW in 2022 and three other nuclear plants with a combined capacity of 4000MW are expected to be commissioned by 2031. Nigeria plans 1,000MW from two proposed nuclear plants before 2019 and the country¡¯s quest for nuclear power is boosted by an abundance of uranium.

Therefore, the congress in Africa will offer you a comprehensive coverage of the nuclear energy market with fresh project updates and various case studies. Meanwhile, for those who are keen to find new investment opportunities or strengthen their presence in this market, this 2-day congress will provide plenty of opportunities to meet your future partners.

I am looking forward to seeing you in Cape Town!

Best regards,
