Dr Stamatios Tsalaswas nominated Director-General of the Euratom Supply Agency (ESA) in July 2011. ESA contributes to the EU Security of Supply policy for nuclear fuel, nuclear materials and services for nuclear power reactors, research reactors and non-nuclear applications.
Dr Tsalas has gained extensive experienceof nuclear energy issues, in the European Commission, where he started as a nuclear inspector, in 1980, and has been a member of the Management since 1997. From July 2008 to September 2009 he was Director ad interim for Euratom Safeguards.
Dr Tsalas holds a PhD in Nuclear Chemistry from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany.He has contributed to numerous international symposia (INMM, ESARDA), mainly on Euratom Safeguards. He had an active role in shaping the European Commission relations with the IAEA in the field of nuclear safeguards.
Dr Tsalas is involved in the Nuclear Security Summit process since its inception, in 2009. |
