Peter Atherton joined Jefferies in March 2015 as Managing Director and head of European Utility Sector research. Peter has been an equity analyst covering the Utility sector since 1997 when he joined Kleinwort Benson. Before that Peter worked within the sector, latterly as a corporate strategist at National Grid plc. In 2000 Peter moved to Citigroup where he headed the European Utility sector team for over a decade. Whilst at Citigroup, Peter and his team were ranked No 1 in both the Institutional Investor and Extel survey for 10 straight years. For 18 months prior to joining Jefferies Peter was head of sector team at Liberum Capital. Peter is recognised as one of the leading commentators on UK energy issues and has been called as an expert witness before UK parliamentary committees on more than a dozen occasions, and regularly appears in the media.
