The Turkish Akkuyu nuclear power plant (NPP) project has restarted after the Turkish Government signed a deal with the Russian Government.
The first unit is expected to achieve its first criticality in the second half of 2019. The remaining three units will come online in yearly intervals once Unit I begins commercial operations in 2020. The project is estimated to cost $20bn and will be Turkey’s first nuclear power plant.
According to preliminary estimates, the Turkish side could carry out 35-40% of all construction works at the Akkuyu NPP, amounting to $6-8 billion. More than 350 Turkish companies have applied to be included in the official suppliers list for preparing the NPP’s infrastructure.
