Welcome to World Upstream Series (Iran) Summit 2017, which will be held on May 9-10, in Tehran, Iran.

Volatility in oil markets has led players in the upstream oil and gas industry to focus more on reducing capital spend and operating costs. Meanwhile, governments need to review regulations especially the fiscal terms to maintain attractiveness and investment.

Iran possesses the world's fourth largest crude oil reserves and the world's largest gas reserves. After the lifting of international sanctions, Iran has enforced its ambitious plans to significantly increase supplies of both oil and gas, but this has been curtailed by chronic under-investment in its upstream industry and petroleum infrastructure. External investment has been constrained for many years by the sanctions, and IOCs have also been discouraged by the severity and inflexibility of former buy-back contract. In December of 2015, the Iranian government introduced a new oil contract, Iran Petroleum Contract, as well as 18 E&P blocks and 52 upstream projects. During 2016, the IPC has been finalized, NIOC's pre-qualification of first tendering round has began and Iran has been exempted from OPEC's deal about reducing output and allowed a small rise in crude production from current levels. Supported by positive policy and regulation, Iran has showed great determination of cooperating with international players and marvelous opportunities are emerging simultaneously.
