Welcome Message

Dear Colleagues,

It is my greatest pleasure, on behalf of the Organizing Committee to welcome you to attend the Motor Insurance Innovation Congress China 2016 (IIC-Motor), to be held on September 13-14th, 2016, in Shanghai, China.

The motor insurance industry in China is undergoing great changes and it’s chasing after the international innovation trends.

The commercial motor insurance premium reform in China has given motor insurers more liberty to decide their own insurance rates, which has activated the whole motor insurance market. The achievements of the 6 pilot regions have paved the road to promote the reform countrywide, while the infrastructure construction is still eagerly called by the market.

The liberty gives the motor insurers more freedom to choose their business models, while at the same time it requires the insurers to improve their capabilities to independently identify and evaluate the risks, which normally come from “drivers” and “Automobiles”. In this sense, it becomes a necessity for the insurers to deepen their researches into automobile technologies and drivers’ behaviors in order to improve their actuarial precision and pricing capability.

In terms of automobile research, it becomes obvious that the difference of technologies or in another phrase the difference of auto types can change the risk types and risk size. Therefore, the insurers are required to understand more about auto technologies and their innovation trends. Only in this way, the insurers can catch up with the trends to innovate their products and improve their services.

In terms of drivers’ behavior related research, the telematics technologies have made it possible. Insurance telematics is relatively popular in the USA, Europe, and even in South Africa. Some telematics-based UBI business models have become quite successful in the regions mentioned before. The OBD-based UBI is successfully developed in the USA, and the black box-based UBI is popular in Europe. Some other UBI models based on OEM-embedded technologies and smartphones also have been researched and practiced worldwide. In China, the OBD-based UBI is widely discussed, researched and practiced, while the challenges are quite obvious which call for great improvements.

Moreover, the Internet+ and advanced technologies and services also activate the motor insurance market in terms of product innovation, sales channel innovation and services innovations.

We are delighted to see the market is changing, while at the same time we have noticed we have much more to do in order to keep pace with the international mature motor insurance markets and increase motor insurance customers’ satisfaction.

Therefore, the congress in Shanghai, China, will offer you a comprehensive coverage of the innovations happening around and will happen in the coming years in the motor Insurance market of China. Meanwhile, for those who are keen to find new investment opportunities or strengthen their presence in the China’s market, this two days congress will provide plenty of opportunities to meet your future partners.

I am looking forward to meeting you in Shanghai!

Best regards,
Organizing Committee of Motor Insurance Innovation Congress China 2016
