Event Background

The gap between energy supply and demand in Africa is huge. The advantages of nuclear energy have aroused the interest of many countries in this region, typically, South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria and Kenya.

The revised Integrated Resource Plan 2010-2030 published for comments by Department of Energy, South Africa in November 2013 indicates "the nuclear decision can probably be delayed.
